Team Holcomb receives their Gold medals for the Olympic 4-Man Bobsled competition at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Congratulations to Steven, Curtis, Steve, and Justin. And congratulations to the US Bobsled and Skeleton Federation, The Bodyn Bobsled Project, and all of the other sponsors and fans!
Breaking a 62 year drought, Team Holcomb brought home the Gold today at the Winter Olympic Four Man Bobsled. Steve Holcomb piloted the sled with Curtis Tomasevicz on the brakes and side pushers Steve Mesler and Justin Olson. The team bested Second place Germany’s Andre Lange by .38 seconds, while Lange pushed Canada’s Lyndon Rush to third by only one hundredth of a second. It was an exciting day of racing. Below the crowd cheers them on as they pass through the “Thunderbird” turn approaching the finish. Congratulations guys! (Photo/Todd Bissonette)
After the first two runs of the 4-man competition, Steve Holcomb and the Night Train lead the field by a margin of .40 seconds. This can be a lot of time in bobsledding, a sport timed to the hundreths, but this is the Olympics and there are still two more runs to complete. Could be USA is in line for an Olympic Gold in Bobsledding…first one on 62 years. Johnny Napier and his crew pushed it to the limit, and were standing in 7th after the first run, but thier luck ran out in run two when they turned it over in the section of the track dubbed 50/50 by the drivers…you have a 50/50 chance of getting through it on all four runners. Mike Kohn and his team did well and made it down with two clean runs, currently in 12th position with Napier in 17th after the crash.
It was a good night for Canada as Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse won the Gold medal and Helen Upperton and Shelly-Ann Brown taking the Silver in the Ladie’s Olympic Bobsledding event. USA also fared well with Erin Pac and Elana Meyers placing for the Bronze medal in USA2, with Bree Schaaf and Emilay Azevado only two back in 5th place and Veteran Olympian Shauna Rohbock with Michelle Rzepka braking in 6th position. Three out of the top six…Not too bad! A testament to the training and dedication of the entire US team, and the support of organizations like the Bodyne Bobsled project.
Japan still has a cool sled…
